Greetings to you good folks. Several
years ago I purchased from you a set of BPOC 10X42 Military
Commander's Binoculars to use for hunting. I also have a set
of West German Carl Zeiss 8X30 BGA Olive Safari Glasses that
I've been using to good effect for the past nine years; however,
while the West German Zeiss glasses are certainly "World Class"
in every aspect of their construction and performance. They
certainly do not beat-out the Russian glasses in the performance
field. Furthermore, when one considers that the cost ratio difference
between the two set of binoculars is 8:1 and the fact that I'm
getting a better twilight factor with the Russian glasses without
giving up the crisp, superb color resolution, this is absolutely
extraordinary.
This leads me to admit that the Russian
optics industry is certainly more than capable of competing
against us, the Europeans and Asians.
If the Russian optics industry would
take a page out of what Europe's industry has done for the American
market, they could very easily dominate that import market,
especially with an average cost ratio difference of between
4:1 to 8:1. As is the case with my binoculars. In fact, had
I had these excellent Russian glasses available to me at the
time I dropped $875.00 on the West German Zeiss glasses, I venture
to say that I would never have spent this kind of money on the
German product. Especially, given the fact that I'm actually
getting slightly better field performance with my Russian glasses.
Being an ardent student of world history
and Russian history, now that Russia has come through a millennia
and more of bloody struggle to become a free democratic country,
I for one, would certainly like to see their long-suffering
people prosper more.
While slight retooling may prove to
be an inconvenience, it would certainly be only a momentary
inconvenience that would in the end, yield great dividends for
them. In closing, I thank you for your time. I would be honored
if you could forward this letter in it's entirety to the appropriate
Russian Production Managers. I sincerely wish them well and
look forward to seeing more of their extraordinary products
in use here by serious American shooters and hunters...DerSasquatch...Out.
